When: Saturday, October 23, 10am-5pm (A full-day workshop)

Where: Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia, 1616 Walnut St., Suite 1800

Tuition: $315 (lunch will be provided)

This one-day master class will help you refine and apply the nuts and bolts of the craft – and the profession – to your work, regardless of where you are in your process as a writer. The act of rewriting and shaping is at the heart of crafting plays that are entertaining, provocative, and most importantly, communicate your intentions as a playwright. The day will include in-class exercises, discussion, and critique. Two actors will be present to give voice to your work.

J.T. Rogers’s latest play, BLOOD AND GIFTS (PlayPenn 2009), is currently running at the National Theatre in London, the first new American play to debut in the National's 1,000-seat Lyttelton auditorium. The play will have its American premiere at Lincoln Center Theater next fall. His plays THE OVERWELMING, MADAGASCAR, and WHITE PEOPLE have recently been produced in London by the National Theatre, Tricycle Theatre, and Theatre 503; toured the UK with Out of Joint; and been heard on BBC radio. In New York City, they have been seen at the Roundabout Theatre, the SPF Play Festival, and commercially Off Broadway; they have been staged as well in Australia, Canada, Israel, Germany, and throughout the United States. In the US and UK, his plays are published by Faber and Faber. His essays have appeared in The Independent, New Statesman, and American Theatre. In New York City, Rogers is a resident playwright at New Dramatists and a member of the Dramatists Guild. He holds an honorary doctorate from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.
