In the wake of injustices perpetrated last week against George Floyd and the volatile, and justifiable, responses that have followed, our hearts ache, our minds are challenged, and most profoundly our spirits have been dimmed.
The killing of George Floyd is one of the many stains on the ways our country treats people of color in our society. We stand with all those seeking justice, not only for Mr. Floyd’s death but those of the countless others who have been on the receiving end of the darkest impulses of white America.
We fully support the protests in Minneapolis and elsewhere across the country toward bringing about more just, fair, and equitable treatment for people of color in the United States of America.
As an organization devoted to the theatrical telling of stories that represent the breadth of society and culture in our country, we are aware of the responsibility we have to our community and to ourselves to redouble our efforts to ensure that stories from every quarter find support toward public telling.
We encourage you to support any and all meaningful protest against racist policy wherever it exists. If you are able, you can support efforts by donating to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, the Philadelphia Community Bail Fund, Black Lives Matter and other organizations that are working for racial justice.
