Playwrights
Each year in September, PlayPenn opens its application process to consider plays and playwrights for its next summer’s Conference. Invited playwrights will have the opportunity to work with a director, dramaturg and Philadelphia-based, professional actors over a 20-day period that allows for 29 hours of rehearsal and staged reading time along with ample time to reflect and write.
Directors
Conference Directors are chosen in consultation with selected Conference Playwrights. The best way to participate in the Conference is to establish relationships with playwrights who have an interest in working developmentally with PlayPenn. Nonetheless, we are happy to hear of your interest.
Actors
Interns
Each summer PlayPenn hires six interns to take part in our July New Play Development Conference. This is a wonderful opportunity for motivated young theater artists to work alongside experienced professionals in a concentrated and fulfilling environment.
Each intern assists a collaborative team in the development of one of six plays invited to the conference chosen in a national search. Interns also assist in the administrative, front of house and production needs of the conference.
