Class Description
Instructor: Cassandra Rose Semester: Fall 2026 (Mondays) Session: 10 Online Sessions New Students: $600 Returning PlayPenn or DGI Students: $525 Foundry & Entrepreneur Members: $480 DGI Certificate Students: $480 Every week it's the same goal: Write the worst play imaginable. Make it unproduceable, wildly illogical, and/or boring as all get out. Then come into class to discover why it's actually not that bad. Along the way, writers will accidentally sharpen their skills in story structure, world building, character arcs, and other tenants of storytelling. "Write Your Worst Script" is a great course for those dealing with imposter syndrome, writer's block, or a hypercritical self-editor. Because in the end, your worst play is actually the one you never write. Write the worst play imaginable. Discover why it might be better than you think. CASSANDRA ROSE is proud to write for the stage, screen, video games, and radio-- often at the same time. Originally from Rockford, IL (go Peaches!), her sordid past includes growing up doing historical reenactment, giving tours in a science museum's coal mine, and working the front desk of a literacy nonprofit. As a playwright, she followed up a BA in Playwriting at Columbia College Chicago with a decade of Chicago playwriting self-productions and residencies, including Chicago Dramatists' Tutterow Fellowship. Most recently, her play BILLY TO HIS FRIENDS was a 2025 Semifinalist at Austin Film Festival, and had a well-received Off-Broadway workshop at the Fresh Fruit Festival. It will be published by 1319 Press by the end of 2026. As a screenwriter, she won Austin Film Festival in 2022 with her scripted digital series, WALK INTO A BAR. As a narrative designer, she shipped 3 titles for the romance video game "Chapters." And as an audio drama writer, she wrote multiple episodes for Wondery, Starlight Radio Dreams, and The Whiskey Radio Hour. She has taught at Writopia Lab, Chicago Dramatists, PlayPenn, and through her own independent workshops. No matter the format or genre, she believes in a student-led experience, in which a student is met where they are at and encouraged to engage their struggle muscles in a fun and welcoming creative environment.

ONLINE SCHEDULES & TIME ZONES: Most of our classes are offered online and open to participants worldwide. Our website automatically displays class start times based on your device’s current location, so you will always see the correct time no matter where you are. If you are traveling for work or personal reasons, please verify the local time shown on your device on this registration page before joining the class. For example, if a class begins at 7:00 PM U.S. Eastern Time (ET), it will appear as 4:00 PM PT when viewed from the U.S. West Coast, or 11:00 AM the next day if you are in Sydney, Australia. Many of our instructors are based in the U.S. Eastern Time (ET) zone, but not all. Once again, please double-check the local time shown on your device on this registration page before joining the class if you are traveling. IN-PERSON SCHEDULES & TIME ZONES: If the class is held in person, please note that the start time is based on the time zone of the city where the class takes place. If you book the class while traveling, be sure to use the class’s local time zone rather than the time zone of your current location. TRAVEL FOR HYBRID CLASSES: Many of our classes are held online but for time to time we offer hybrid classes where a portion of the class takes places online and a portion of the class takes place in-person. Please note the cost of the class does not include travel or housing for students to attend the in-person sessions. As well, PlayPenn cannot cover the cost of travel or housing.
