PlayPenn thrives on the ever-growing, diverse community of writers we’ve had the joy of supporting over the past 20 years.
We champion artists across the country at every stage of their careers, offering more than just development — we provide education, mentorship, and space to grow in both craft and the business of playwriting.
Our commitment takes shape in many ways:
The Foundry is a multi-year professional development program for emerging playwrights in the Philadelphia area. Writers are offered long-term support, peer connection, and mentorship to deepen their voices and expand their creative reach.
The Playwrights Cohort focuses on career sustainability for writers across experience levels. Cohort members engage in workshops, community-building, and professional development to support the ongoing demands of a life in the arts.
Our Continuing Education Program has offered a dynamic roster of classes since 2015, serving theatre artists of all experience levels. While grounded in the craft of playwriting, these courses welcome all theatre makers who are interested in deepening their storytelling skills and artistic practice.
The New Play Development Conference is a cornerstone of our work — a rigorous and collaborative space where new scripts are explored through readings, rehearsals, and deep dramaturgical engagement. It’s a space for experimentation, discovery, and growth.
PlayPenn is a launchpad, a classroom, and a creative playground. We make space not just for plays to evolve, but for playwrights to thrive — in their ideas, their practice, and their careers.
