Submissions Intensive: Writing to Win

Learn to finish strong & submit with purpose—build real-world submission skills as a writer.

Class Description

Instructor: Lucy Wang (Playwright) Former DGI Title: Writing to Win, Place, or Show Summer can be a tough time to write, with the call of the wild beckoning us outdoors to play. But this course, taught by Kennedy Center Award-winning playwright Lucy Wang, will help you to stay motivated and keep up your writing! Every week, there will be an in-class writing exercise, often inspired by real-world submission opportunities. Afterwards, you’ll get the chance to share what you’ve written, to revise it and to submit it to reap the added benefit of public recognition. While rewards vary with each opportunity -- publication, reading, production, or a cash prize -- the overall goal remains the same: to improve craft, create new work, increase visibility, and have fun. Come explore and experiment with your voice across genres in a safe, supportive environment – and perhaps join the growing list of students who have won public recognition and prizes afterwards! The magic is within you. Requirements for this Class: Students must be willing to explore ideas and create work inspired by submission opportunities/prompts.. Expectations for this Class: Students should be prepared to share pages during class, and to give/receive open, empathetic feedback. After Completion of Class: Students will be more knowledgeable about available submission opportunities, so that you can be more proactive with your career.
